In a day and age where distractions come looking for young people to sap the energy and resource inherent in them, the youth of Sekondi-Takoradi responded to the call to growth, leadership and transformation from the YKPO Team.

On Saturday 28th March 2025, the YKPO Team led by Padmore-Othniel held the third edition of their youth empowerment conference dubbed “Youth-Konnect with Padmore-Othniel.”
This edition spotlighted the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), with presentations on how the youth of Ghana could leverage on Ghana’s commitment to achieving the SDGs, as enshrined in the 2025 Voluntary National Review(VNR) , for national development.

Participants were also taken through sessions on the importance of character building, highlighting how strong values and discipline contribute to developing an excellent personality and enhancing overall performance in any field of endeavour. With only five years remaining to achieve the SDGs by 2030, the programme explored global trends and progress on key goals such as SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).

Emphasis was placed on the urgent need for young people to rise as solution creators and active contributors in addressing the challenges of declining progress and stagnation in SDG attainment.
In addition, participants were introduced to Ghana’s Sustainable Development Goals Voluntary National Review (VNR) and encouraged to leverage opportunities within Ghana’s Energy Transition agenda, including its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2070. This positions Ghana among nations taking deliberate long-term climate action.

All attendees were encouraged to adopt and actively contribute to at least one Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), and were challenged to play meaningful roles in their homes, schools, and workplaces toward community development and nation- building.Youth-Konnect with Padmore-Othniel (YKPO) remains committed to its mission of educating, inspiring, and empowering young people, with plans to extend its impact through subsequent conferences across other regions of Ghana

“Youth-Konnect with Padmore-Othniel” is a high impact social gathering aimed at educating, inspiring and empowering young people towards purpose, personal development and greatness, driving them to become doers and positive change-makers in their generation and beyond, and ultimately become all God wants them to be.

In the second edition ,i.e. 2.0, the “Ins-power” sessions focused on the etymology of vision and the stages of vision development for global impact and success , and the link between Religiosity and Wealth (Purchasing Power Parity) on a global scale, and how young people can leverage on same for their personal development, which translates to societal and national development.

On 29th March, Padmore and his team of leaders at Tassō Pattern of Leadership Organization were honoured at the maiden edition of the National Youth Shakers Conclave and Awards 2025, put together by the Relevant Achievers Impacting Nations (RAIN) Foundations to honour Changemakers in all facets of society.
Padmore was honored with the award of “Change-maker” in the Youth Leadership category, for his significant contribution to Youth Leadership and Development over the past 10 years, together with other change-makers across all the 16 regions of Ghana.

T-POLO… making straight paths, building excellent lives.

Just this past weekend at “The Thriving Mindset” breakfast meeting with Rev. Mike Abban, I had the opportunity to address some challenges affecting Youth Development.

The Global Youth Development Index (YDI) highlights six domains as pointers to Youth Development in any nation. These domains are hewed from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They are:

1. Education
2. Employment and Opportunity
3. Equality and Inclusion
4. Health and Wellbeing
5. Peace and Security
6. Political and Civic Participation

Over the past 12 years (from 2010 to 2022), the Sub-saharan region has recorded the largest improvement in average youth development. This is quite impressive, however, according to the Global YDI 2023 ranking, Ghana is ranked 105/181 and 21/56 at the Commonwealth YDI 2023 ranking.

We have six more years to go with the SDG 2030 timeline.
From where we stand , the following key areas when taken into consideration will help accelerate our Youth Development and subsequently secure a fulfilling future for our youth, who will become top decision makers in the next decade or two, as the sustainable development of a country largely depends on the wellbeing of the youth population residing in it:

~ Stakeholders must recommit to the inclusive participation of the youth in governance.

~ Young people must be empowered to co-lead and co-create solutions to the challenges of development, democracy, diversity and peace.

~ Stakeholders must engage partners to investment in creating an enabling environment for youth empowerment. An empowered youth is an equipped youth. Together we can!
